What is Registration with ACA World Service?
Registration Is
Registration is the process of providing your group's information to the World Service Organization for Adult Children of Alcoholics. It consists of filling out a registration form (www.AdultChildren.org/reg) or simply sending the group information on a plain, 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper to ACA WSO, P.O. Box 3216, Torrance, CA 90510. The information requested is:
Who May Register?
Any independent group for Adult Children of Alcoholics (and others who desire to recover from the effects of growing up in an alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional family) who:
Why Register?
Registration place your meeting on our meeting guide for publication
and for referrals to ACAs in your area.
Registration allows your meeting to receive information from the ACA
service structure (Intergroups, Regional Service Boards, and the World Service Office) and
provides you a channel to make your group conscience known to that service structure.
Registration confirms that your group is an ACA Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition meeting. By following the Traditions, the Newcomer can be reasonable assured that the meeting is not part of a personality cult or too far removed from the Recovery shared by Twelve Step groups. This is becoming more important as our Program grows and other, non-Twelve Step, or non-Tradition groups for children of alcoholics become known. It helps eliminate confusion.
Registration brings your group under the tradition of the service structure being "responsible to those they serve" by defining who has asked for our representation. Only registered meetings and intergroups may participate or vote in the ACA Annual Business Conference (ABC) where issues of literature, policy, and planning are decided by the fellowship using group conscience.
How Long is Registration Valid?
Your meeting will be registered until the next Annual Business Conference. Newly elected secretaries must re-file with WSO if you wish to start receiving secretary materials from WSO.
If a meeting has not filed a current registration, or it cannot be confirmed by telephone, mail, or a visit to the location, the meeting is considered to be dissolved and will be dropped from our meeting directory.
