I am an Adult Child.
I have always needed and even created service to/for others.
I wanted to make you happy. I wanted to make you admire and like me.
I volunteered for everything.
It gave me value. Made me feel better about myself.
I enabled and used my co-dependence to serve others.

Then, Recovery came into my life.
I began to really listen to fellow shares.
I knew that I was broken and wanted to change.
I found my HP and started to heal.
I made the coffee in my in-person meeting. I sold literature in my in-person meeting.
I did service. I began to heal.

Then Covid/Zoom Recovery came and saved my life. No, service gave me my life back.
Gave me my soul and let me begin to find my authentic self.
The second month of Zoom meetings the question came up.
About who would volunteer to host the meeting the following month…
I was not qualified. I could not do it because I did not have enough recovery.

I did service. I hosted that meeting.
I made mistakes. No one cared.
I did it for myself. It felt so odd.
I had to show up. I did show up.
I could attend and give service to meetings every day.
I gave service every day.

I planned my shares. What would sound best. Did that sound good? Did I sound recovered?
Two more years into Zoom recovery I began to speak what I felt.
I began to speak my truth. I continued to do service. My recovery grew.
I gave service. I became a Delegate, 7th Tradition, Secretary, Chair, My recovery Grew.
I found safety I had never known. My Recovery Grew.

I do service and my Recovery Grows.
I am happy to be free to be me.
I love my life. I love all of my life, good and bad.
It is my journey and I trust my HP to be with me on the journey.
I do service because the Fifth Tradition says,
“Each Group has but one primary purpose–

To carry its message to the adult child who still suffers.”
I do service to carry the message to those adult children who still suffer.
