Four years ago, I stepped into service in Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families (ACA), and I have never stopped growing in my recovery and my love for Fellow Travelers.

I stepped into service as our group meeting representative, and then I moved into the role of secretary for one year. I am so grateful that our chair position became open, because I got to slide into the chair position and out of the secretary position. I am the worst secretary, and I own it.

Today, in our group, I know we are family. I believe my appreciation for these members was because we made them feel safe and loved enough to do their best and be their best.

Our Connecticut Intergroup has put on successful retreats and workshops that have been so much fun. People have come from all over to strengthen and build our ACA family. We’ve laughed, cried and made silly mistakes. But I’ve been given the gift of light heartedness, which I feel continues to bring us all even closer.

I do not like rotation of service, even though I realize it is vital for growth in our ACA fellowship. I hate change and would have gladly continued doing what I know and enjoy.

However, with that said, my recovery is how I handle the new opportunities that my Higher Power puts in my life.

I know in my heart that these beloved Fellow Travelers will always be in my ACA family. I know and trust I am going to reach and touch new people, and they will become family, too. The journey here will always be my constant and must not end.

I am excited to continue this journey to meet and love my True Self. I will be forever grateful for my choice to step into service with the Connecticut Intergroup as it brought us all together.
