Changing My Behavior Through ACA
I never thought I could change my behavior! Hey, all these years I thought my bad behavior was normal. Plus, I was born this way, right?
I was aggressive, angry, and irritable to name a few.
With the urging of a dear friend who suggested to me on numerous occasions to go to AA and then Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA), I finally acquiesced and went. I loved the Big Red Book, and, at the time, I had no idea I was an Adult Child or even what that meant.
I made a commitment to myself and kept my word.
Today I am a content person. I am not filled with shame, regret and grudges from my past.
ACA has given me the tools to live in peace.
Yes, there continues to be drama with my son who needs recovery, but I pause, pray and hope someday he finds ACA.
This recovery program has been my life saver, to say the least. Today “I mind my own business.” Rather than asking inappropriate questions, I simply pause.
Reflecting on my past, I became aware I had no boundaries; and my behavior was reckless even after getting sober. This is where ACA has filled in so many missing parts of my life.
Today I continue to clean up the wreckage of my old behavior and make amends when necessary. By working the steps with my sponsor, going through the Laundry List Workbook with her, working through the Loving Parent Guidebook with five other lovely women and going to meetings, I am more comfortable with myself than I have ever been in my adult life.
My lnner Loving Parent keeps me on track on so many fronts. It is amazing I keep peeling away the layers and have found answers.
Thank you God and ACA!
