I believe in the sun and the moon, that they will come around again.
I believe in the clouds and the blue sky, and the starry nights.
I believe in the summer and winter, that they will come around again too.
I believe in the trees, the plants, and the grasses.
I believe in the animals and the bugs, and the cycles of life.
All will carry on.
I believe I will be okay, will have food and shelter for all my days.
I believe the world will continue to provide lovely sights, scents,
sounds, experiences in touch and awe, and fabulous flavors.
I believe in program and my continuing connection.
Connection, the antidote to addiction, even addiction to people.
I believe in this new way of living.
I believe in boundaries, setting them, and living by them.
I believe in feelings and needs, they bring such richness to life.
I believe in kindness, caring, safety, and honesty.
I believe my younger son will do OK.
Not so sure about my older son…
I believe he was born with a lot stronger addiction genetics.
I believe in the Canadian geese that fly in circles near me,
honking and chatting to each other as they pass over.
I believe in the clouds of robins that fly at dusk, flying west,
for many, many days in a row.
They will come again.
I believe in the ebb and flow of the river below me.
I believe in friends and heartening connections.
I believe in being seen and heard.
I believe in life and living and being.
I believe in my inner family, my inner children,
and my need for solitude. Yes, splendid solitude.
And that more will be revealed.
I have set aside believing in Science as my God,
having replaced that with my Higher Power.
A many-year path from “the doorknob” to “the group,”
to being able to hear “God” mentioned in a meeting,
and being able to hear “Higher Power” instead.
And being able to stay, mentally in the room.
Stay spiritually in my life.
I believe in this life, this world, this family, and in me.
