As a first time delegate to the Annual Business Conference, I was there more as an observer than as an active participant.
I voted on three ballot proposals in a manner that I believed would best serve ACA. My votes were in alignment with the majority decisions.
I found the first day to be an informative and valuable learning experience.
I spoke out on an issue that was of concern to me - that being my comments about the proposed name change for ACA. I was frightened to speak out, but now that I have done so, I feel more confident to speak up on important matters in future meetings of all kinds.
On the second day, the conference addressed less exciting issues, like finances, and the need for, and the qualifications for service on the Board of Trustees.
Overall, it was a positive learning and uplifting experience for me in terms of observing the process of conducting effective meetings.
I hope to attend again next year, more fully prepared, and better equipped to make an effective contribution to the Conference.
