A child of God died today.
When I see my parents as children I see the abuse and
Neglect they survived.
I see them as hurt, helpless souls trying to make sense
Out of a life that must have seemed senseless.
A child of God died today.
What do we see when we look at a picture of our parents?
Do we see hurt, abuse, rage, disappointment and fear?
Have you ever ask yourself “is that my hurt, abuse, rage,
disappointment and fear or is it theirs?”
A child of God died today.
I thank God he died knowing peace, love and forgiveness
And I pray God he was welcomed into the arms
Of unconditional love and safety.
A child of God died today.
I am thankful my Father and Mother gave me
WONDERFUL siblings.
I may not have always experienced my parents love
But I learned love in this family unit,
And for this I am grateful!
Sharing your grief
Love, Vicke
My name is Midge. My sister, Vicke, and I are members of ACA, 9 and 12 years, respectively. We are from a family of seven children and lost our father about five years ago. Vicke wrote this poem and placed it in sympathy cards she sent to each sibling. I was and am so moved by this I asked her permission to publish this on the ComLine Blog, and she agreed. She also added a copy of our parent’s picture that has always been a favorite since they are young happy and in love, what we only ever wanted them to be!
ACA has made our lives so much better. I love that it is not about shame and blame of family and parents; they lived through it too! They gave what they knew and they did better for us than their parents did for them. We did the same for our children, and our children are doing better for our grandchildren.
Recovery is great and has improved our lives every day.
Thank you.
