Crafting A Proposal, Part 2

by | Sep 1, 2022 | ComLine, Fellowship News

If your group has an idea to benefit ACA worldwide, submit it as a Proposal. ACA groups, globally, will vote on Ballot Proposals beginning in February. The vote will help set the agenda of the WSO Annual Business Conference (ABC).

Further examples of different types of proposals:

Requests for New Literature

Many proposals focus on new literature development.

This proposal was well-written (succinct and clear) and eventually included on the ABC agenda. A motion was generated and passed. Now we have The Loving Parent Guidebook

Proposal 2017-3 Submitted by FL158

  • Issue: We propose that the WSO create a workbook on “Becoming Your Own Loving Parent.” Activities, questions and tools will be drawn from chapter 8, related parts of the BRB and ACA member suggestions.

Present the Idea, Not the Solution

Below are two proposals with the same goal - to increase participation at the ABC.

The 2017 proposal focused on the method, asking for a unique voting timeline – unfeasible, since Delegates would vote before discussions.

A year later, leaving the 'how's and when's' to WSO, the next proposal asked only to expand on existing technology. Conceivable and achievable. (Note – italicized added for emphasis)

Proposal 2017-7:  Submitted by TEL210, IG616, & TEL282

  • Issue: So that more groups could participate through the delegate voting system we propose that delegates be allowed to vote on proposals, brought to the ABC, using electronic methods (Survey Monkey), in advance of the ABC. An adjustment would need to be made in the final round of nomination procedure so that this can happen. The exact method of adjustment would need to be determined. There will be no change regarding delegates who want to travel to the ABC meeting to vote.

Proposal 2018 – 7:  Submitted by NY131

  • Issue:  We propose that the WSO utilize online conferencing and voting technologies to provide remote access to the Annual Business Conference, for those not chairing in the WSO. This is so that phone and cyber meeting groups, geographically distant members, those with limited time availability or childcare obligations, or other restrictions, may attend as delegates or otherwise vote on matters of concern to ACA as a whole.
